After weeks of getting together we decided that there was more to this music game than just meeting up for jam sessions, so it was decided that we needed a singer and a drummer and more importantly a name for the band, eventually we came across Mark (singer) and Dave (drummer), This was probably the first ever line up of Jump & Jive. We all came up with different ideas for a name for the band, and as we still do today with any decision, we went on a majority vote, Big Wig got the vote and the name Jump & Jive became our tag (the name is taken from a Crazy Cavan song). The bands influences were drawn mainly from the Teddyboy/Rockabilly bands that were on the scene at that time, namely, Crazy Cavan, The Riot Rockers, Flying Saucers, Matchbox, The Jets, and the Stray Cats. The band worked hard over the following months and eventually put a full set together so that they could go out and play live, the set consisted mainly of Rockabilly and Teddyboy style rock n roll songs such as Cavan’s, She’s The One To Blame, and Matchbox’s Rockabilly Rebel, Over the following years the band played numerous live gigs, and like most bands have had various line up changes throughout this time, the most noticeable being that Kev & Paul have had to take on the singing duties. The present line up is, Paul (bass/vocals) Kev (guitar/vocals) Big Wig (guitar) Ian (Drums) Our influences are still the same today but the rock n roll scene is changing and a growing number of today’s rock n roll club attendees prefer to listen to standard, mainstream, or traditional rock n roll songs, mention the word Rockabilly at some venues and it will send shudders down the spine. Jump & Jive are rolling with the changes and now include quite a few standards in their set without straying too far away from their roots, its good to breath life into some of the standard songs by adding a little bit of pace to the tempo. We even put our stamp on songs that would not normally be associated with the rock n roll scene, as long as it feels right… sounds good and has a rockin beat that people can dance to, that’s fine by us and we'll keep on rockin for years to come
